Product description
3M Scotch-Weld DP420NS Black 50 ml – structural epoxy adhesive for demanding bonds
3M Scotch-Weld DP420NS Black is a two-part, toughened epoxy adhesive with a black colour and controlled flow. It is designed for durable structural bonds requiring high shear and peel strength as well as resistance to impact and fatigue.
Applications of DP420NS adhesive
The adhesive can be used to bond many structural materials, particularly metals, laminates and composites as well as selected plastics. Manufacturer testing shows high bond strength on materials including aluminium, stainless steel, cold rolled steel, copper, brass and fibre-reinforced plastics.
DP420NS is suitable for industrial assembly, structural production and component manufacturing wherever the adhesive joint must withstand significant loads. In many applications it can be used as an alternative to screws, rivets and spot welding.
Key properties
- high shear and peel strength,
- toughened formulation for increased resistance to impact and fatigue,
- controlled flow and non-sag consistency for easier application,
- approximately 20 minutes of working time for positioning parts,
- two-part epoxy system mixed at a 2:1 ratio by volume,
- black colour after curing,
- suitable for application with the 3M EPX system and an appropriate mixing nozzle.
Selection and application
Surfaces to be bonded should be clean and dry. Depending on the substrate, the manufacturer recommends suitable degreasing and mechanical surface preparation. After applying the adhesive, join the parts and keep them fixed until the required handling strength is achieved.
Before using the Duo-Pak cartridge, make sure both components flow evenly. When using the EPX application system, the components are automatically mixed in the appropriate nozzle. Correct surface preparation and complete mixing of both components have a significant influence on final bond strength.

FAQ – frequently asked questions
Is 3M DP420NS a two-part adhesive?
Yes. It is an epoxy adhesive consisting of two components mixed at a 2:1 ratio by volume.
What colour is DP420NS after curing?
After mixing and curing, the adhesive is black.
How much time is available for positioning the bonded parts?
The manufacturer specifies an open time of approximately 20 minutes. Actual working time depends on factors such as the amount of mixed material and temperature.
What materials can DP420NS bond?
The manufacturer publishes bonding data for materials including aluminium, steel, stainless steel, copper, brass, ABS, polycarbonate and fibre-reinforced laminates. Compatibility and surface preparation should be verified for the specific application.
Does the adhesive sag after application?
DP420NS has a controlled-flow formulation designed for applications where limited adhesive sag is required.
Is an applicator required for the 50 ml cartridge?
The product is designed for use with the 3M EPX system. For controlled dispensing and automatic component mixing, a compatible applicator and suitable mixing nozzle should be selected.
