Oils for slideways and sliding surfaces are an important element in modern production technologies. They should provide very good performance, precision and economy. They avoid direct contact of sliding surfaces and protect the lubricated surfaces against mechanical damage and corrosion. Good quality oils for slideways enable gentle and uniform movement of tool carriers, very precise positioning even with small elements and high loads.
Oils for slideways in machine tools
The most important parameter of the slide oil used in machining machines is the ability to demulsify from the coolant (separating from the cooling lubricant emulsion). This allows the oil to be collected from the surface of the reservoir, extends the life of the coolant and maintains its parameters for a longer period. Such oils are the slideways oils of the Divinol T EP series by Zeller & Gmelin, which comply with the DIN 51502 CGLP standard. In combination with Zubora coolants, they additionally prevent the formation of black deposits in the cavities and traces on the slideways. Shell Tonna S2 and S3 are other products with demulsifying properties.
Oils for slideways in oil-cooled metal processing machines
For oil-cooled machines, we recommend the Divinol T6 KA series, which comes in ISO 68, 150 and 220 viscosities. These are dedicated products that can also be used in machines without separate oil circulation, e.g. when machining oil and guide oil are supplied from the same container.

Shell Tonna S2 vs Tonna S3
Shell Tonna S3 guide oils outperform the S2 series in terms of resistance to coolant washout, better stick-slip and are more efficient. Tonna S2 oils are recommended for less demanding applications.
