Product description
ARALDITE 2053-15 480 ml – flexible 2K methacrylate structural adhesive
ARALDITE 2053-15 is a two-component toughened methacrylate structural adhesive designed for bonding metals plastics and composite materials. It combines high bond strength with flexibility which helps the joint withstand stresses vibration ageing and changing environmental conditions.
Applications
The adhesive is intended primarily for industrial and structural applications. It can be used for bonding metals composite materials and suitable plastics in manufacturing transport maintenance and assembly applications.
ARALDITE 2053-15 can be used on substrates including aluminium stainless steel copper brass ABS PVC PMMA polycarbonate and composite materials. Galvanised steel is not a recommended substrate for this adhesive.
Key properties
15-minute open time allows sufficient time for positioning larger components before curing progresses.
High flexibility – elongation at break is approximately 60% which helps compensate for stresses between different bonded materials.
Resistance to ageing and weathering makes the adhesive suitable for demanding industrial joints.
Limited surface preparation required – methacrylate adhesives can perform effectively with relatively little pretreatment although clean dry and properly degreased surfaces provide the best bond durability.
Application
Surfaces to be bonded should be clean dry and degreased. Components A and B are dispensed at a 10:1 volume ratio. The cartridge should be used with a suitable two-component dispenser and a compatible static mixer.
The recommended application temperature range is from 10°C to 40°C. After application the parts should be assembled and held in position before the open time expires.

Storage
Store the product in its original tightly closed packaging at 2°C to 8°C. Under these conditions the stated storage life is 18 months. The total time stored at room temperature should not exceed 6 months. Prolonged exposure to temperatures above 25°C may reduce the shelf life.
Safety
The uncured components of ARALDITE 2053-15 are hazardous mixtures. Use the product in accordance with the current safety data sheets for components A and B provide adequate ventilation and wear suitable personal protective equipment. Keep the product away from ignition sources.
FAQ
Which materials can ARALDITE 2053-15 bond?
The adhesive is intended for metals plastics and composites including aluminium stainless steel copper brass ABS PVC PMMA polycarbonate and composite materials.
Is ARALDITE 2053-15 suitable for galvanised steel?
Galvanised steel is not a recommended substrate for this adhesive. Another ARALDITE product should be selected for this application.
How much positioning time is available?
The open time is approximately 15 minutes. Actual curing behaviour depends on the temperature of the environment and bonded materials.
Why is the adhesive suitable for bonding dissimilar materials?
Its relatively high elongation at break helps compensate for stresses that may occur between materials with different mechanical properties and thermal expansion behaviour.
Do the surfaces need to be prepared?
Yes. The surfaces should be clean dry and degreased. Proper preparation improves the strength and durability of the joint.
Which dispenser is required for the 480 ml cartridge?
A two-component dispenser designed for a 10:1 mixing ratio and a compatible static mixer are required.
