LOCTITE AA 3494 25 ml – transparent UV/VIS acrylic adhesive for glass and metals

LOCTITE AA 3494 is a one-component transparent medium-viscosity acrylic adhesive cured by UV and/or visible light. The 25 ml version is supplied in a syringe for convenient and controlled application.

The adhesive is intended primarily for rapid bonding, sealing and potting of glass components and for joints combining glass with other materials. When exposed to a suitable light source, it can cure within seconds and forms an impact-resistant bond with very good resistance to prolonged humidity and water immersion.

Applications of LOCTITE AA 3494

LOCTITE AA 3494 is primarily designed for bonding glass to glass and glass to most metals. It can also be used for sealing and potting applications provided that the joint design allows sufficient light energy to reach the adhesive layer.

Applications indicated by the manufacturer include decorative glass with rough surfaces, moulded glass components, glassware and automotive lighting components. The product is also suitable for ceramic materials.

Technical documentation also contains data for bonds between glass and selected plastics. When using the adhesive with plastics, the compatibility of the specific material and the risk of stress cracking should always be evaluated.

What distinguishes LOCTITE AA 3494

Controlled light curing – the curing process can be initiated after the components have been correctly positioned.

UV/VIS curing – the product can be cured using UV and/or visible light of suitable intensity.

One-component technology – the adhesive is ready for application and requires no component mixing.

Medium viscosity – the nominal viscosity is approximately 6,000 mPa·s, supporting controlled adhesive application.

Durable bond – when properly cured, the adhesive forms an impact-resistant joint with very good resistance to prolonged humidity and water immersion.

When to choose LOCTITE AA 3494

LOCTITE AA 3494 is particularly suitable for applications where components need to be accurately positioned before curing begins and where rapid progression to the next process stage is required after light exposure.

Light-curing technology requires sufficient light to reach the adhesive layer. Joint design and the light transmission properties of the bonded materials therefore have a direct influence on the effectiveness of the curing process.

How to use LOCTITE AA 3494

Surfaces to be bonded should be clean and free from grease. Apply the adhesive to the prepared surface, position the components correctly and then expose the bond line to a suitable light source.

Cure speed and cure depth depend on factors including the intensity and spectrum of the light source, distance between the lamp and the joint, exposure time, adhesive layer thickness and the light transmission properties of the material.

The product is light-sensitive. Exposure to daylight, UV radiation and artificial light should therefore be minimised during storage and application.

Important information before use

When LOCTITE AA 3494 is used with plastics, the specific material should be evaluated for adhesion and susceptibility to stress cracking when in contact with the uncured adhesive.

Compatibility with all plastics should not be assumed solely on the basis of polymer type. Before use in serial production, the joint should be evaluated under actual process conditions.

LOCTITE AA 3494 is not recommended for use in pure oxygen or oxygen-rich environments and should not be used as a sealant for chlorine or other strong oxidising substances.
