LOCTITE SI 5910 BK black RTV silicone flange sealant for oil pans and engine covers, 100 ml tube
Description
LOCTITE SI 5910 BK 100 ml is a black, one-component RTV silicone gasket maker in paste form, designed for flexible sealing of flanges and covers in automotive and industrial applications. It is ideal for stamped sheet metal covers and oil sumps where high resistance to engine oils and joint movement compensation are required.
Advantages and unique features
- Black oxime-cure RTV silicone with high resistance to engine oils
- One-component formula – no mixing or special equipment required
- Thixotropic paste – does not slump on vertical or horizontal surfaces
- Flexible joint that compensates movement and vibration of the flange
- Good adhesion to metals and many engineering plastics
Properties and applications
- Flange sealing: for oil pans, timing covers, gearbox covers and other stamped sheet metal components.
- Oil resistance: formulated specifically for operation in contact with automotive engine oils.
- Elastic seal: high elongation and flexibility minimise the risk of seal cracking under vibration and thermal cycling.
- Easy application: thixotropic paste enables clean application of a continuous bead without product running.
- Versatile substrates: intended for steel, aluminium and many other metals and selected plastics used in powertrain assemblies.

Storage recommendations
Store LOCTITE SI 5910 in its original, tightly closed container in a cool, dry place away from heat sources and direct sunlight. The optimal storage temperature is between +8 °C and +21 °C; prolonged storage below +8 °C or above +28 °C may adversely affect product properties. Do not return leftover material to the original tube – it is best to use it immediately or dispose of it in accordance with local regulations.
FAQ
1) What is LOCTITE SI 5910 BK 100 ml typically used for?
It is most commonly used for sealing oil pans, timing covers, gearbox covers and other stamped sheet metal components in engines and machinery where oil resistance and joint flexibility are required.
2) Is LOCTITE SI 5910 resistant to engine oils?
Yes, the formulation is specifically designed for continuous contact with automotive engine oils, so the seal remains tight during engine operation.
3) How long does LOCTITE SI 5910 take to cure?
At around 25 °C and normal humidity, a surface skin typically forms within 40 minutes. Full cure in deeper sections is reached over the following days, depending on bead thickness and ambient conditions.
4) On which materials can this sealant be applied?
The product is intended primarily for steel and aluminium, but it also adheres well to many other metals and selected plastics commonly used in automotive constructions.
5) Can LOCTITE SI 5910 be used for joints in permanent contact with fuel?
LOCTITE SI 5910 is optimised for use with engine oils rather than petrol or diesel fuel. For applications with continuous fuel contact, consult the manufacturer or select a sealant specifically approved for such conditions.
