LOCTITE LB 8013 – Metal-Free Anti-Seize Paste for High-Temperature Connections
LOCTITE LB 8013 is a high-purity anti-seize assembly paste based on graphite and calcium oxide, designed to protect steel, stainless steel and special alloys against galling and seizing. Its formulation contains no added metals and is suitable for demanding industrial applications where lubricant purity is particularly important.
The paste reduces friction during assembly, helps achieve predictable clamping forces and protects connections against damage during subsequent disassembly. It can be used at operating temperatures from -30°C to +1315°C.
Applications of LOCTITE LB 8013
LOCTITE LB 8013 is designed to protect mechanical connections, particularly where high temperatures, the risk of galling or strict lubricant purity requirements are involved.
Typical applications include:
- stainless steel bolts, nuts and threaded studs,
- threaded connections and fasteners exposed to seizing,
- valves and pipe fittings,
- slip fits and press-fit assemblies,
- assembly of steel and special alloy components in industrial installations.
The product is used in nuclear power generation, chemical, pharmaceutical and paper industries, as well as other installations incorporating stainless steel fasteners.
What Makes LOCTITE LB 8013 Different?
High-Purity Metal-Free Formulation
The paste is based on graphite and calcium oxide. It is manufactured from high-purity raw materials with controlled trace levels of specified impurities. This helps reduce the risk of problems associated with unwanted substances in demanding industrial installations.
Protection Against Galling and Seizing
During assembly, the paste reduces friction and helps prevent galling of mating surfaces. During operation, it provides protection against seizing and helps minimise thread damage during subsequent disassembly.
High Temperature Resistance
Its operating temperature range of -30°C to +1315°C allows the product to be used in demanding high-temperature applications, in accordance with the manufacturer's technical documentation.
PMUC Approval
LOCTITE LB 8013 has PMUC approval, which is relevant to specific industrial applications, particularly in nuclear power generation. Product selection should always take into account the technical requirements of the installation concerned.
When Should You Choose LOCTITE LB 8013?
This anti-seize paste is a suitable choice when:
- protecting stainless steel threads against galling and seizing,
- connections are exposed to high operating temperatures,
- components must be disassembled later without damaging the threads,
- a metal-free anti-seize compound is required,
- installation specifications require a high-purity lubricant or PMUC approval.
How to Apply LOCTITE LB 8013
Before application, thoroughly clean the surfaces to be protected. This is particularly important because the calcium-containing components of the paste may be incompatible with certain lithium-based lubricants.
- Clean the threads and assembly surfaces, removing contamination and residues of previously applied lubricants.
- Apply the paste before or during assembly by spreading it or using a brush.
- Coat the surfaces requiring protection.
- Use the product without dilution.
Important: The paste changes friction conditions in bolted joints. For applications requiring controlled clamping force, the appropriate friction coefficient and tightening procedure must be taken into account.
Application Limitations
LOCTITE LB 8013 is not recommended for pure oxygen or oxygen-enriched systems. It should not be used as a lubricant in installations containing chlorine or other strong oxidising agents.
Compatibility should be checked before use with other lubricants. Particular care is required if residues of certain lithium-based products are present.

Storage
Store the product in a dry location in its original, tightly closed container. The recommended storage temperature is +8°C to +21°C. Storage below +8°C or above +28°C may adversely affect the product's properties.
Do not return paste that has already been removed from the container, as it may become contaminated.
FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
Is LOCTITE LB 8013 suitable for stainless steel bolts?
Yes. The paste is designed, among other applications, to protect stainless steel connections against galling, seizing and thread damage during disassembly.
Does LOCTITE LB 8013 contain copper or nickel?
It is a metal-free anti-seize paste based on graphite and calcium oxide, with no added metallic ingredients. However, high purity does not mean the complete absence of trace metals. The manufacturer specifies controlled limits for certain impurities in its technical documentation.
Can LOCTITE LB 8013 withstand 1315°C?
Yes. The manufacturer specifies an operating temperature range extending up to +1315°C. Actual application conditions and the temperature limitations of the materials used in the joint must also be considered.
Does LOCTITE LB 8013 cure after application?
No. It is a non-curing anti-seize assembly paste. It is not a substitute for an anaerobic threadlocker designed to prevent threaded fasteners from loosening.
Can LOCTITE LB 8013 be applied over old grease?
This is not recommended. Surfaces should be thoroughly cleaned before application, particularly to remove residues of products that may be incompatible with the calcium-containing components of the paste.
Is LOCTITE LB 8013 intended exclusively for nuclear power applications?
No. Although it is used in nuclear power generation and has PMUC approval, it is also suitable for other demanding industrial installations, including chemical, pharmaceutical and paper industry applications.
