Sikagard 6220 1 L high-penetration anti-corrosion cavity wax
Description
Sikagard 6220 – high-penetration anti-corrosion cavity wax
Sikagard 6220 1 L is a spray-applied anti-corrosion wax designed for the repair and protection of enclosed and hard-to-reach areas in vehicle bodies. The amber-coloured product has a very high creep capability, allowing it to penetrate narrow seams, sheet-metal overlaps and hairline cracks where moisture may accumulate.
After drying, Sikagard 6220 leaves a brown, slightly tacky and permanently flexible wax coating. The protective layer displaces water and helps protect metal against corrosion, road salt and other environmental factors encountered during vehicle operation.
Applications of Sikagard 6220
The product is designed for the protection of enclosed and hard-to-reach vehicle body sections, including:
- closed vehicle body cavities,
- vehicle sills,
- pillars and structural cross members,
- internal door sections and door skins,
- side body panels,
- internal sections of bonnets and boot lids,
- sheet-metal overlaps and narrow seams,
- concealed areas requiring corrosion protection.
Sikagard 6220 provides very good adhesion to various paint systems, metal primers, metals and PVC. Before application, the surface must be clean, dry and free from rust, dust and grease.
Key benefits of Sikagard 6220
- very high creep and penetration capability,
- effective displacement of water from protected surfaces,
- high resistance to road salt and salt spray,
- resistance to fresh water, sea water, oils, weak acids and weak alkalis,
- permanently flexible wax coating,
- good low-temperature performance,
- resistance to elevated temperatures,
- reduced mist formation during spraying,
- penetrates fine gaps without excessive dripping through drainage holes,
- low solvent content.
How to apply Sikagard 6220
- Remove rust, dust, grease and all other contamination from the surface.
- Make sure that the substrate is clean and dry.
- Protect bare metal beforehand with a suitable anti-corrosion coating.
- Shake the container approximately 40 times before use.
- Mask adjacent surfaces to protect them from overspray.
- Apply using a pneumatic spray gun or light airless spray equipment at an operating pressure of approximately 3–6 bar.
- Spray flat surfaces from a distance of approximately 25 cm.
- Use a flexible hose or suitable cavity probe for enclosed profiles.
- Apply one continuous and even coat.
Important application information
Sikagard 6220 is intended for experienced professional users. Compatibility and adhesion tests should be carried out on unusual substrates and under actual application conditions.
Do not spray the product onto brake components, the engine or the exhaust system. Sikagard 6220 cannot be overpainted.
