Description

Fischer DuoTec 12 – toggle fixing for plasterboard, OSB and MDF

Fischer DuoTec 12 is a nylon toggle fixing designed primarily for panels and structures with hollow spaces. Its short toggle element passes through a 12 mm drill hole, then rotates behind the panel and distributes the load over a larger surface area of the substrate.

This fixing is a suitable choice when a cabinet, shelf, lamp, mirror, handrail or another item needs to be mounted in plasterboard, OSB or MDF and a conventional expansion plug cannot anchor correctly in the hollow space. The version with the Melkib SKU 00542590 is supplied in a package containing 10 fixings without screws.

Applications of the Fischer DuoTec 12

The fixing is designed for use in plasterboard, gypsum fibreboard, OSB, chipboard and MDF panels, as well as steel sheets and plastic panels. The manufacturer also indicates its suitability for hollow concrete blocks.

Fischer DuoTec 12 can be used for mounting wall cabinets, shelves, wardrobes, handrails, pictures, mirrors, lamps and hanging baskets. The final selection of the fixing and the permissible load must always be determined according to the type and thickness of the substrate, the direction of the load, the screw used and the installation method.

Key features of the Fischer DuoTec 12

The toggle element combines glass-fibre-reinforced plastic with a metal support structure. Its soft grey contact surface rests against the rear of the panel and distributes the load over its surface, helping to reduce local stress on the material.

The reinforced collar sleeve stabilises the fixing in the drill hole and supports the transfer of transverse loads. The snap-in function enables pre-positioned installation and prevents the fixing from falling into the cavity. The flexible screw seat allows suitably selected wood and chipboard screws to be used. Metric screws may also be used in panel materials in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.

The installation strap includes a scale that helps determine the required screw length. According to Fischer’s instructions, the minimum screw length is calculated using the following formula: panel thickness + thickness of the fixture + 20 mm.

When should you choose the Fischer DuoTec 12?

This version is suitable when the panel thickness is between 9.5 and 55 mm, there is at least 50 mm of free space behind the panel and the screw diameter is between 5 and 6 mm. The short toggle element also enables installation in relatively narrow or insulated cavities, provided that the required depth is available and the element can rotate freely behind the panel.

How to install the Fischer DuoTec 12

Drill a hole with a diameter of 12 mm in the substrate. Before inserting the fixing, the curved end of the strap can be used to check the cavity and detect obstacles behind the panel. Position the toggle element parallel to the strap, insert it through the hole and then pull it against the rear surface of the panel.

Insert the collar sleeve into the drill hole and snap off the protruding part of the strap. The item can then be installed using a suitably selected screw with a diameter of 5–6 mm. The minimum screw length should equal the combined thickness of the panel and the fixture plus an additional 20 mm.

Limitations and important installation information

Before installation, make sure that there is at least 50 mm of free space behind the panel and that the toggle element can rotate correctly. Also check that there are no cables, pipes, structural profiles or other obstacles in the drilling area.

In solid construction materials such as concrete or wood, the Fischer DuoTec 12 functions as an expansion plug. The manufacturer does not recommend using metric screws in this type of application. A single universal load-bearing value should not be assigned to the product because its actual load capacity depends on the substrate, its thickness and condition, the type of screw, the distance from the edge and the direction of the load.

FAQ

Is the Fischer DuoTec 12 suitable for plasterboard?

Yes. The fixing is designed for plasterboard with a thickness of 9.5 to 55 mm, among other panel materials. There must be at least 50 mm of free space behind the panel to allow the toggle element to rotate.

Are screws included in the package?

No. The package with the Melkib SKU 00542590 contains 10 Fischer DuoTec 12 fixings without screws. A screw with a diameter of 5–6 mm must be selected separately according to the substrate, the item being fixed and the intended load.

How do I determine the screw length for the Fischer DuoTec 12?

The minimum screw length should equal the combined thickness of the panel and the fixture plus an additional 20 mm. The scale on the fixing’s installation strap also helps determine the required length.

Can the Fischer DuoTec 12 be installed in concrete or wood?

Yes. In solid concrete or wood, the fixing functions as an expansion plug. Metric screws should not be used for this type of installation.

How many kilograms can the Fischer DuoTec 12 support?

There is no single load value applicable to every installation. The permissible load depends on factors including the type, thickness and condition of the panel, the screw used, the direction of the load, the distance from the edge and the quality of installation. Where a specified load capacity is required, consult the current Fischer load tables for the relevant substrate.

Can the fixing be used in a cavity containing insulation?

The short toggle element allows installation in some insulated cavities. Before installation, however, make sure that the required depth of at least 50 mm is available and that the element can rotate freely behind the panel.
