Hylomar M (Medium) - liquid sealant resistant to most liquids, 80 ml
Description
Hylomar M Medium non-setting gasket sealant for joints and threads resistant to fuels oils and coolants
Hylomar M Medium 80 ml is a non-setting and non-hardening gasket sealant based on polyester urethane chemistry, designed for sealing closely fitted surfaces, metal-to-metal joints, plastic-to-plastic joints and threaded components. The Medium grade is suitable where sealing performance, resistance to operating fluids and later disassembly of parts are important.
It is a practical solution for service, maintenance, workshops and technical applications where a flat gasket requires additional sealing or where the joint must remain dismantlable. Hylomar M Medium operates in a wide temperature range from -50°C to +250°C and is resistant to oils, fuels, water/glycol mixtures, water, air and combustion products from reciprocating engines and turbines.
Applications of Hylomar M Medium 80 ml
Hylomar M Medium is intended for sealing joint faces and threaded components. The manufacturer indicates applications such as water pumps, oil pumps, inspection covers, cylinder heads, oil pans, transmission components and machined surfaces.
The product can be used as a standalone sealing compound on suitable surfaces or as a gasket dressing to support the performance of flat gaskets. It is especially useful where the joint needs to be tight but also possible to dismantle during service.
What makes Hylomar M Medium different
The key feature of Hylomar M Medium is that it does not harden or dry in the conventional way. It does not create a hard, brittle bond, so parts sealed with this compound can be easier to dismantle during maintenance.
Medium is the intermediate grade in the Hylomar M Light / Medium / Heavy range. For the Medium grade, the manufacturer specifies a film thickness of 0.03 mm, maximum surface finish of 3.0 µm and coverage of 1.36 m² from an 80 ml tube. This makes it a practical choice for many machined surfaces requiring a controlled, thin sealing film.
When to choose Hylomar M Medium
Choose Hylomar M Medium when you need to seal a joint exposed to oil, fuel, water, water-glycol fluid, air or gases, while keeping the possibility of later disassembly. It is a suitable choice for service joints, covers, pumps, oil pans and threads that may require periodic inspection.
The product is particularly useful where the problem is minor leakage on mating surfaces, imperfect contact of a flat gasket or the need to seal a joint without using a permanently curing compound.
How to use Hylomar M Medium
The joint surfaces should be clean and dry. Apply a thin, even film of the product to both surfaces and allow the solvent to evaporate. The parts can then be assembled.
Because Hylomar M Medium is a non-setting product, immediate assembly after application is not required. In some joints, the manufacturer indicates that the parts may be retightened after a short time, as the compound can settle under load.
During disassembly, product residues can be removed from dismantled parts using the cleaning product recommended by the manufacturer for Hylomar removal.
Important points before use
Hylomar M Medium contains acetone and is highly flammable before the solvent evaporates. During application, keep it away from ignition sources, ensure proper ventilation and use protective measures in accordance with the safety data sheet.
This is not a structural adhesive or a product for permanent bonding of components. If the application requires full curing, filling large gaps or creating an elastic adhesive-sealant joint, a different technology should be selected.

FAQ
Does Hylomar M Medium harden after application?
No. Hylomar M Medium is a non-setting and non-hardening compound. After the solvent evaporates, it remains as a sealing film that allows later disassembly of parts.
Is Hylomar M Medium suitable for threads?
Yes. The manufacturer indicates that Hylomar M can be used as a non-setting thread sealant and for sealing joint faces.
Can Hylomar M Medium be used with a flat gasket?
Yes. The product can be used as a gasket dressing or as a sealing compound on suitable joint surfaces.
What is the Medium grade best suited for?
The Medium grade is indicated by the manufacturer for applications such as water pumps, oil pumps, inspection covers, cylinder heads, oil pans and most machined surfaces.
Is Hylomar M Medium resistant to oil and fuel?
Yes. The product is resistant to a wide range of media, including oils, fuels, gasoline, kerosene, water, water/glycol mixtures and selected technical fluids used in machinery systems.
Do the parts need to be assembled immediately after application?
No. After applying a thin film and allowing the solvent to evaporate, immediate assembly is not required because the product remains non-setting in the joint.
What should be avoided when using Hylomar M Medium?
Avoid working near ignition sources, open flames and poor ventilation. The product contains acetone and is classified as highly flammable, so standard precautions for flammable liquids must be followed.
