MOLYKOTE D-7409 500 g, heat-curing dry-film lubricant, oil/solvent-resistant, −70–300 °C, 5–20 µm
Description
MOLYKOTE D-7409 Anti-Friction Coating 500 g is a heat-curing dry-film lubricant for metal. It combines excellent lubrication with corrosion protection, high wear resistance and high-temperature performance, especially where conventional oils and greases cannot be used.
Benefits and unique features
- Strong anti-wear and anti-corrosion performance; high load-carrying capacity
- Resistance to oils, greases and solvents
- Service temperature range: −70 to +300 °C
- Effective under slow/oscillating motion and intermittent duty; reduces fretting corrosion
- Enables permanent lubrication where fluid lubricants are unsuitable
Properties and applications
- Typical uses: piston rings and tappets, starter motor armatures, bonnet/hood lock parts, highly stressed sliding areas with low speeds and oscillating movements.
- Surface prep: clean and degrease thoroughly; phosphating or ~180-grit blasting is recommended to improve adhesion and service life.
- Application: spray (3–5 bar), dip, spin, or brush; target 5–20 µm dry film.
- Curing: typically 30 min at 220 °C (part temperature); brief flash-off before oven.
- Coverage & thinner: ~16 m2/kg at 10 µm; recommended thinner – MOLYKOTE 7415 Thinner.

Storage recommendations
Store in the original tightly closed container in a dry, well-ventilated area, ideally at 5–23 °C (max 40 °C). Keep away from ignition sources; vapours may form explosive mixtures with air. Ground equipment during transfer.
FAQ
1) Media resistance?
Cured film resists oils, greases and solvents.
2) Surface preparation?
Degrease; for best adhesion use phosphating or ~180-grit blasting.
3) Film thickness?
Typically 5–20 µm dry.
4) Curing profile?
30 min at 220 °C (part temperature).
5) Storage?
Sealed 5–23 °C (up to 36 months); keep away from flames, general 0–40 °C acceptable.
