MELKIB UV 200P MB-0044 50 ml – UV/VIS light-curing adhesive for PLEXI (PMMA)
Description
What is MELKIB UV 200P used for?
MELKIB UV 200P MB-0044 50 ml is a single-component adhesive cured with UV/VIS light (200–400 nm), designed for bonding PLEXI (PMMA). Light curing enables fast processing in applications where the bonding area can be illuminated.
In practice, the key point is that curing occurs only where light reaches the bond line. Curing speed and depth depend, among other factors, on light intensity, the spectral distribution of the source, exposure time and light transmittance through the substrate.
Key benefits in use
- Fast curing: the product can be fully cured within a few seconds after exposure to UV/VIS (200–400 nm).
- Precise bonding: recommended for small gaps (smaller than 0.25 mm).
- Bond durability: good resistance to thermal cycling and impact supports long-lasting joints.
- Stable post-cure properties: after curing it reaches, for example, Shore A 50 hardness and 200% elongation (according to the technical data).
Typical curing conditions
The product can be fully cured within a few seconds after exposure to UV/VIS (200–400 nm). Surface curing is enhanced by exposure to UV in the 220–260 nm range. Curing speed and depth depend on light intensity, spectral distribution of the light source, exposure time and light transmittance through the substrate.
Applications
- Bonding PLEXI (PMMA) parts in manufacturing, service, assembly and precision work.
- Applications where UV/VIS illumination of the bond line is possible (a test on the final materials is recommended).
How to use
- Protect from light: limit exposure to daylight and artificial UV sources during storage and application.
- Surface preparation: substrates must be clean, dry and degreased; ensure the surface is completely dry before bonding.
- Application: apply a thin layer, assemble parts and cure with UV/VIS; reference irradiance on the exposed surface: approx. 100 mW/cm².
- Inspection: after curing, check bond quality (continuity, no bubbles, fully illuminated bond area).
- Heat-sensitive materials: for thermoplastics, provide adequate cooling during curing.

Expert tip
With UV adhesives, complete illumination of the bond line is essential. If light does not reach the entire bonding area (e.g., due to opaque parts or joint geometry), curing may be incomplete. We recommend a test on the final materials and joint geometry.

Send the material type, gap size and your lighting method — we will recommend a suitable solution and process parameters.
Storage
Store in a cool and dark place when not in use. Shelf life: 12 months from the date of manufacture when stored at 5–25°C in the original, unopened container.
FAQ – frequently asked questions
Why does the UV adhesive not cure through the entire bond line?
The most common reason is insufficient illumination of the full bonding area. Curing occurs only where UV/VIS reaches the joint. Light intensity, exposure time and substrate transmittance also matter.
How should I prepare PLEXI (PMMA) before bonding?
Surfaces must be clean, dry and degreased. After cleaning, make sure there is no moisture or residue that could reduce adhesion.
How do I choose the lamp and curing parameters?
The choice depends on joint geometry and materials. As a reference, approx. 100 mW/cm² irradiance is used on the exposed surface; curing time and depth should be verified with a test under application conditions.
Can I bond parts with opaque sections?
If light cannot reach the bond line, curing may be incomplete. In such cases, adjust geometry, illumination method, or use a different technology.
Note: the data are indicative and may change; a test under real application conditions is recommended before use.
