Description

Product description

MELKIB 1200EL is a single-component, transparent adhesive cured by UV/VIS radiation. It delivers very short process times, a flexible bond line and resistance to yellowing. It suits applications that require optical clarity and dimensional stability, including coating and potting of LED components.

Benefits & applications

Rapid UV/VIS cure: full properties achieved within seconds after exposure (reference LED 365 nm, approx. 1 J/cm²).
Clear, aesthetic bond: anti-yellowing – suitable for optical parts and LED assemblies.
Flexible bond line: approx. Shore A 40; elongation at break ~260% – compensates thermal expansion mismatch.
Wide substrate range: metals, plastics and ceramics*.

*Always run adhesion trials; UV transmission through the substrate affects cure depth.

UV/VIS curing parameters

Source: UV/VIS 200–400 nm (e.g., LED 365 nm).
Recommended dose: approx. 1 J/cm² (adjust to geometry and substrate transmission).
Notes: cure speed and depth depend on intensity, wavelength, exposure time, lamp distance and light transmission through the bonded parts.

Application guide (brief)

1) Prepare surfaces: clean, dry, degreased. 2) Limit exposure of the uncured adhesive to ambient light before curing. 3) Apply from bottle/syringe or with benchtop dispensers. 4) For stress-cracking-prone plastics, run trials and consider cooling during exposure.

Storage

Up to 12 months in the original, unopened container. Store cool and dark (approx. 5–25 °C), away from heat sources and light.

FAQ

Will it cure through glass? Yes, provided the glass transmits the relevant spectrum (e.g., 365 nm) and the delivered energy is sufficient. Low-UV-transmission glass may require longer exposure.

Is it suitable for PP/PE or PTFE? Adhesion to very low-surface-energy substrates (PP, PE, PTFE) is limited – trials and/or a primer are required.

Is it food-contact approved? Industrial product; no declaration for food contact.

How to set exposure time? Start with LED 365 nm and ~1 J/cm², then fine-tune for lamp power, layer thickness and substrate transmission.

Parameters are based on a TDS aligned with UNIMER 398. Actual results depend on process conditions and materials. Always validate on production samples; for EHS, follow the current SDS.
